      • Left my child alone...don't trust her
      • When I interviewed her, I was very impressed with her set up. Nice big yard, beautiful house. She seemed very nice as well. I started to fill out paperwork. She gave me a paper that said "I _____________ give my permission for my child to play outside unattended in Linda Rousseas back yard" She stated the state made her have parents fill this form out. I was uneasy about it and I did not fill it out. I wanted to check into it. She promised me that my child would not be left unattended anyway and that it was just something the state wanted filled out. I showed up to pick my child up. I heard her in the back yard, so I decided to just go down to the back yard. I noticed the gate was not latched. The children could have walked right out. Was not happy about that. I figured I would talk with her about it. I walked down to the back yard and saw my child and 2 other children about her age. I looked around and didn't see any adults. I waited for about 5 minutes to see how long it took for someone to come out. At this point I was pretty upset. My child is 5 years old and should not be left unattended especially since I did NOT sign the form and it is illegal for her to be left unattended anyway. I took my child and walked into the house through the basement. I then saw about 15 kids ranging from 10-15, it looked to me. I asked where Linda was. One girl told me she was upstairs but she has to page her on the intercom to let her know I was coming before I was aloud to go upstairs. I didn't sit there and wait. I went up. I wanted to see what she was hiding. I went up stairs and she gave me a dirty look for not waiting. I saw there was even more children up stairs. I left. I called her later to discuss this with her. She stated over and over again she did not leave her unattended and that there needs to be a certain level of trust. I don't buy it. I contacted the state and asked them about this paper. They said that certain school aged children may be left in a secure back yard but only for a very short time. They also said since my daughter was not in a full day school program, that she did not meet this requirement. They said that even if I had filled out that paper, she still could not leave her alone. They also said that the paper was not from them and they would never ask a provider to have this type of paper completed. Needless to say, I was only there the one day and will not be going back. I hope to god that the parents of the other small children find this somewhere and take there kids out of there. It is NOT ok for a 5 year old to be left alone. Especially with the gate being unlatched. Any one of those kids could have walked right out of her yard and out to the street and she would not have known it for a long time to come. I have since reported her to the child licensing board and they are investigating. Please be aware. (acaringmom, 10/07/2009)
